Caleb's First Soccer Game
Following a day of torrential rain, Caleb played his first soccer game. With thunder rumbling and lightning flashing in the distance, the Bluejays were able to play about half of the game before it was called. But that half was so humorous, it had me laughing until I cried. Somehow, the other team was almost entirely uniform in its ethnic makeup, composed of a population that generally excels in soccer. The odds were stacked against the Bluejays from the start. Caleb and a teammate worked together to score the first goal (for the other team). Later, a little teammate reached the ball just before it was to roll out-of-bounds. Facing the sideline, the little guy firmly kicked the ball into a neighboring field. Then there was our goalie...she made a skilled save, but didn't stop there. With the ball balanced between her feet, she turned right around and kicked it firmly into the goal she was guarding. All in all, it was a rout. In this non-competitive, non-scorekeeping league, Matt made sure to keep score. 4-1 in the first of many presumed losses for the Bluejays. But they all got little award stickers afterward, with Caleb receiving "Most Christlike" for playing despite his sprained finger. The kids seemed to have a fabulous time, and the snack of cookies and gatorade afterwards sealed the deal for Caleb. It was a great half hour of entertainment for the adults as well...we're looking forward to next week :)
Iron Man's Misfortune
On a recent gusty day, Caleb, Madi, and I set out on a kite flying adventure. Caleb may have flown a kite when he was very young, but Madi had never flown one. They were extraordinarily excited! We walked to a nearby park with a large, grassy space. All was going well...the kites practically flew themselves in that wind. I leaned down to help Madi with her Elmo kite, and when I looked up Caleb's Iron Man kite was flying very, VERY high. Too high! He had let go of the string. It landed high in a tree, overhanging a lake...impossible to retrieve for everyone but a swimming giant. But Elmo lived to fly another day!
Caleb Quote O' the Day
Caleb was "reading" (he has a lot of books memorized) "If You Give a Pig a Pancake," when I heard him say, "Then the pig had a home headache."
Actually, the pig was homesick, but he got the gist of it :)

Beautiful Bluebonnets
Upon seeing an extraordinary field of bluebonnets along with a flock of photograph-seekers, I quickly veered onto the side road that bordered the field. As the kids were unbuckling, they shouted, "Can we go into the sea? Can we go into the sea?" The field was that saturated with blue...it looked like the ocean! Caleb and Madi were absolutely delighted to run through the fields of blue...yes, there was field upon field upon field of blue. And the photo opportunities were incredible...
A Farm Visit
I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream for Ice Cream!
On a quest for bluebonnet pictures, the kids and I embarked on a road trip to Brenham. While there, we just had to hit up Blue Bell. We had planned to take the tour, but the line was way too long. So, we settled for simply consuming a massive amount of ice cream...5 flavors (and only $1 a pop!) The grounds were beautiful, and we had a great time. Yum! Yum!

Bobby & Steph's Wedding
This post has been a long time coming because it's just so difficult to narrow down the wedding pictures to my favorites. But here they are...a snapshot of memories from Bobby and Steph's beautiful wedding. They were married a few weeks ago on a day filled with sunshine (and lots of wind). Congrats...Here's to a life of wedded bliss!
