An Unusual Dessert

Caleb has been asking me to make ice cream for the past week or so. Tonight at bedtime, he requested it again. I reminded him that we don't have any cream, so we can't make ice cream. But Madi came up with a solution: "Rash cream!!!" she shouted.

She thought that we should simply substitute diaper rash cream for cream. Doesn't that sound yummy?
"I am much afraid that the schools will prove the very gates of hell unless they diligently labor in explaining the Holy Scriptures and engraving them in the hearts of youth. I advise no one to place his child where the scriptures do not reign paramount. Every institution in which men are not unceasingly occupied with the Word of God must become corrupt."

Fruitcake

Madi continues to refer to the King Cake as "fruitcake."

I think the mix up started when we told her that she had to eat some fruit before she could have a piece of King Cake.

Caleb Quote O' the Day

In response to me asking him to pick up his shoes, Caleb replied,

"I don't think Richard is the type of dog that eats shoes."

The Men Folk (and Madi)

My aunt hosted a shower for Steph, and the guys made sure to stay far, far away (except for Bobby; he was kind of obligated to participate). Anyway, I was excited to get some photos with so many generations. The first photo shows 3 generations and the second photo shows 4! The third photo shows Papa Jerry trying to fend off the attack by the wild monkeys. It was a beautiful day to be outside!

Pint Size Picassos

In a moment of temporary insanity, I thought that it would be a good idea to let two toddlers and a preschooler paint indoors on a rainy day. Now, they did have fun, and the animals they painted were cute. But Madi and Jocelyn had a hard time staying within the proper painting area, delighting instead to run through the house leaving paint smudges here and paint spatters there. But they look so cute in their mock smocks. We'll definitely paint again...just maybe on a sunny day outside :)

Afternoon at the Arboretum

So, we ventured out to the Arboretum, which is really an Urban Forest. It's really cool to be surrounded by trees while in the middle of the city. The hit of the day for the kids were the popsicles that we bought at the gift shop. The first picture shows Caleb as he ponders attempting to walk the tight rope. Only about six months removed from his zip line incident, he wisely said, "Maybe I'll wait til I'm older." Perhaps unwisely, I did walk the tight rope and was excited by my accomplishment! The fourth picture shows the kids in a tree house which they readily scaled. Beautiful place...we'd love to go back soon!

Our Blossoming Bookworm

This photo shows Madi asleep with a book covering her face. I guess she had fallen asleep while reading :) Her love of books is growing even more lately. At bed time, she usually brings approximately 20 books into bed, in hopes of having them all read to her. And once, in the middle of the night, she woke up screaming "Booky" I'm so excited that she loves reading!

Bridal Extravaganza

Steph in her "Bride to Be" sticker and me in my "World's Best Bridesmaid" sticker. We had just attended the Bridal Extravaganza with our mom. Wow - what a crazy ordeal! Bridezillas and mother-of-the bridezillas galore! I'm glad that Steph is an anti-bridezilla. Good job, sista!

Valentine's Peom

Caleb recited a Valentine's poem to me today:

"Roses are Red
Violets are Blue
Brownies are Brown
And So are You!"
